Meet Flor — The First Student Sponsored by Andes Horizon

We are proud to introduce Flor Mestanza , the very first student to receive an educational scholarship from Andes Horizon.
Flor is 17 years old and originally from the rural village of Lives, in Cajamarca, Peru. She comes from a humble, hardworking family. Her father works in agriculture, and her mother manages the home while supporting him in the fields.
Flor now lives in Chepén, a city in northern Peru, where she recently began her studies in Industrial Engineering at César Vallejo University. Living away from home is a big step, but she is determined to follow her dream of becoming a professional. Her goal is to one day return to her community and help families and small businesses improve how they manage and spend their money—building more stable and sustainable futures.
She describes herself as disciplined, curious, and determined, with a strong desire to learn and serve. Her commitment and leadership are already making an impact.
“Thank you for your support and trust in me and in Andes Horizon. All of this is possible because of your amazing help and your care for young people like me from the village of Lives.” — Flor Mestanza

Dreamers

Axel
I believe in God and want to be a role model for my little sister and parents.
My parents weren’t accepted by their families, and it’s been difficult.
My mom dreams of me becoming the first in our family to earn a degree, and I’m determined to make that a reality.

Laddys
A 16-year-old from La Compuerta, starts her day before dawn, making a long one-hour journey to school. Despite the challenges, she’s deeply committed to her education. After school, she returns home to help her mother with household chores. While her father works as a peon—a farm laborer in difficult conditions and a job often looked down upon in the community.
From a young age, she has dreamed of becoming a lawyer. She has witnessed the injustices faced by many around her, especially women and victims of domestic violence. Her father’s work and the struggles of her family only strengthen her resolve to create change.
She says: I’m someone who fights for what I want!
Her favorite quote reflects her optimism: “After every setback, there’s always a new opportunity to begin again"
